Guru bhai 247 covers the latest Asian Games 2026 men's cricket update, with Sri Lanka advancing to the semi-finals after their quarter-final against Nepal in Nisshin, Japan, was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The match was called off before the toss after rain began several hours before the scheduled 9am local start. With the weather showing no signs of improving, the officials abandoned the contest and Sri Lanka progressed because of their higher seeding based on the ICC T20I rankings.
Sri Lanka Advance to Semi-finals
Sri Lanka are one of the four seeded teams in the men's Asian Games cricket tournament, alongside India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Their higher seeding proved decisive after the rain prevented the quarter-final from taking place.
India had also advanced from their quarter-final against Afghanistan after a washout on Monday, with their higher seeding determining the qualification. Pakistan similarly progressed after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was abandoned because of rain.
Sri Lanka had been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Asian Games after losing to Afghanistan. They will now meet India in the semi-finals, with another washout potentially determining which team progresses based on the tournament's seeding rules.
Bangladesh vs Malaysia Also Abandoned
The fourth quarter-final between Bangladesh and Malaysia was also washed out a few hours later. Bangladesh progressed to the semi-finals and will now meet Pakistan in the opening semi-final.
The bangladesh vs malaysia quarter-final was unable to produce a result because of the rain, bringing Malaysia's impressive Asian Games campaign to an end after they had topped Group B.
Asian Games Semi-final Schedule
The washouts have completed the semi-final line-up for the men's cricket competition:
Bangladesh vs Pakistan – October 1
India vs Sri Lanka – October 1
Sri Lanka will now prepare for their meeting with India, while Bangladesh face Pakistan in the other semi-final. The two matches will determine the finalists of the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket tournament.
The Guru bhai 247 update highlights how weather has played a major role in the knockout stage, with multiple quarter-finals being decided without a ball being bowled.
