I've owned a few cars over the years and it always seems like the most useful maintenance tips are things you only learn after something goes wrong.

I was recently looking at some used suv cars for sale and realised there's loads of advice scattered around forums, but not much that brings everything together in one place. If you were putting together a proper guide for UK owners, what topics would you include?

I'd definitely want sections on MOT failures, service history checks, common wear-and-tear items, DVLA paperwork, avoiding surprise repair bills, and keeping running costs sensible with today's fuel and insurance prices. Maybe even some advice on buying imported cars or dealing with corrosion from our lovely British weather and roads.

What are the lessons you've picked up that every owner should know?
