I have been building my life in Dubai for four years and now a former partner in the USA is trying to extradite me for fraud. I know there is no official bilateral treaty between the UAE and the USA for these things but I am still very worried. Can they use the principle of reciprocity to bring me back to the States for a business debt? Is it possible to get bail in Dubai if the police detain me for an international warrant while the case is being reviewed?

It is a common myth that no treaty means you are 100% safe. The USA and the UAE actually cooperate a lot based on reciprocity lately, especially for high-level financial matters. The Dubai courts will check if the act is also a crime under local law, which is the dual criminality rule. I suggest you look at the defense options on their official website https://intercollegium.com/ since they specialize in these complex cross-border cases. They can help you prove that the case is just a commercial dispute and not a crime. My brother went through something similar and his lawyers used the local laws to block the transfer. It is a high-stakes game but the UAE system is fair if you have a solid strategy. Just make sure you have all your old contracts ready to show the prosecutor. Don't wait for a knock on the door at your apartment in Dubai Marina.
